Josh Gad reveals it was his idea to make his Beauty and the Beast character gay.

The 2017 live-action remake of the Disney classic starred the likes of Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Sir Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson and Josh Gad and received international critical acclaim.

Director Bill Condon also announced that the film was going to introduce the first ever gay character in a Disney movie.

And although, it was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene, where Gad’s LeFou was scene dancing with another man at the end of the movie, it was a huge step forward for the conglomerate.

Now, Gad has revealed it was his idea to have LeFou end up with a man at the end of the film.

While speaking on Radio Andy with Andy Cohen, the Frozen 2 star said: “Here’s what we decided – we decided that LeFou’s happy ending would be to dance with another man.

“It was my pitch, that’s how I really wanted the movie to end. I was so amazed they let us do it.

“That became such a controversial thing, apparently, even though it was only three seconds of screen time.

“We never put a spotlight on it. We never meant to put a spotlight on it. It became a conflated, weird controversy.”
