Joe Biden and his wife Jill have spoken out in support of LGBTQs in a special video marking Pride month.

"We want to wish you a happy Pride month and let you know how proud we are to stand with you, this month and every month," Democrat leader Biden says in the clip.

The video, titled 'A Pride Month Message From The Bidens', was uploaded to the White House YouTube page on Sunday.

"Pride stand for justice"

Adds Biden: “Pride stands for courage, the courage of all those in generations gone by and today who proudly live their truth. It stands for justice.”

"It stands for defiance in the face of injustice," adds Dr. Jill. "[Also] the legacy of Stonewall and the fight to ensure that all people be treated with dignity and respect."

The video follows Biden officially recognising Pride month in a presidential proclamation earlier this month and calling for an end to transphobia.

In the proclamation, Biden said: "I will not rest until full equality for LGBTQ+ Americans is finally achieved and codified into law. That is why I continue to call on the Congress to pass the Equality Act, which will ensure civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ people and families across our country.

"And that is why we must recognize emerging challenges, like the fact that many LGBTQ+ seniors, who faced discrimination and oppression throughout their lives, are isolated and need support and elder care."
