The actor's final scenes on the ITV soap will air next week, as his character Marcus Dent leaves Weatherfield following the end of his relationship with Todd Grimshaw. The attitude.co.uk columnist said that the gay community has embraced the character as he's a "really nice guy", adding that he has never received abuse in the street. He told Good Morning Britain: "It's been overwhelmingly positive. The gay community seem to really like Marcus and that's good. Marcus is a really nice guy, so generally people are really nice about him. "I don't get any abuse in the street or anything like that! [There were] a couple of comments when I cheated on Maria, but other than that it's been good!" Reflecting on his time on the soap, he said: "It's been brilliant. I've had a fantastic time and I've loved it, particularly with everything that's happened with Marcus being a gay man and then suddenly falling in love with a woman, and then of course leaving that woman for another man! "It's been complex, but I've had a great time." > Charlie Condou: ‘My problem with the phrase ‘openly gay” > Charlie Condou: ‘Never meet your heroes’
