Carol and The Danish Girl dominate BAFTA Film Award nominations

The full list of nominations for this year's BAFTA Awards has been revealed ahead of next month's ceremony (February 14), and it's confirmed what we've known for quite some time: that it's been a vintage year for LGBT cinema. Moving historical biopic The Danish Girl and romantic drama film Carol have been recognised across the board, picking up eight nominations between them. the-danish-girl feat The Danish Girl which was inspired by the life of Danish painter Lili Elbe, who became one of the first people in the world to undergo gender reassignment surgery in the mid-1920s, is up for three awards, including 'Outstanding British Film'. It also receives 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress' nods for leads Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander. Meanwhile, the critically-acclaimed Carol leads the pack with five nominations, including 'Best Film', 'Best Director', 'Best Adapted Screenplay'. Based from Patricia's Highsmith's 1952 romantic novel The Price of Salt, the The Todd Haynes-directed film also picks up 'Best Leading Actress' and Best Supporting Actress' nominations for Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara respectively. The BAFTA Awards 2016 will take place on Sunday, February 14 at London's Royal Opera House, with Stephen Fry set to host for the 11th time.
