Bros' star Luke Macfarlane says he didn't want to be spat on during the gay sex scenes for the gay rom-com due out this October.

In the film, Luke plays Aaron, who meets Billy Eichner's Bobby, and the two try to figure out their relationship. Eichner is the co-writer of the film and the first openly gay man to write a film "of any genre" he revealed to Variety recently.

Speaking to Variety himself, Luke discusses filming the sex scenes, which were done so with an intimacy coordinator as is now standard practice.

Mentioning one scene where Aaron and Bobby are in throes of passion he tells Variety: "there was a moment when Billy was like, 'Should we spit on each other?'" to which Macfarlane replied: "Nope".

Luke also shares he's spent some time on Grindr, an app he describes as "very scary".

Earlier this week Vanity Fair reported Luke was once told by an agent that "Superman can't be gay" and that he thinks he missed out on roles in Hollywood after coming out as gay in 2008.

Approaching the topic with Variety Luke says, "When I mentioned [coming out] to my agent at the time, what I heard back was, 'You know you don’t have to do that,'" which he says made him realise: "They don’t want me to do this."

He goes on to add, "There were not a lot of people that had come out at that point. It was before Neil Patrick Harris. It was before Zachary Quinto and Matt Bomer."

Bros will be out in UK cinemas on 28 October. Check out the trailer below:
